Scott Willits hails from Minneapolis, MN and graduated from the Ailey/Fordham B.F.A. program in New York. Scott currently works for Elisa Monte Dance. He has also worked for Nimbus Dance Works, Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance, among others. Scott has taught ballet, jazz and conditioning at the Summit Dance Shoppe (Minnesota), creative movement classes as part of the JUNTOS collective in orphanages and schools in Guatemala and Mexico, as well as retirement homes and other venues in New York and New Jersey. He has also taught modern and hip-hop at the School at Nimbus Dance Works as well as dance education and after-school dance classes in Jersey City such as St. Joseph School for the Blind. Scott has taught modern at Montclair State University and Manhattan Movement and Arts Center and currently teaches at Dwana Smallwood’s Performing Arts Center (Brooklyn). As a choreographer, he was selected as one of NJPAC’s Jersey (New) Moves! Emerging Choreographers and presented his work at their Victoria Theater this past summer. Scott is excited to be on faculty at Soul Arts Academy. He enjoys teaching children and students of all ages and finds joy in working with them to discover and nourish their gifts and talents as individuals.
