Fairul Zahid

Fairul Zahid Bloom is a prolific and versatile choreographer and dancer working in the disciplines of contemporary dance, Chinese classical Dance, Indian classical dance, and ballet. He has collaborated with international artists Riki Von Falken (German), Gideon Oberzanek (Australia) Un Yamada (Japan), Ena Herosie (Japan), Chunky Move (Australia), Patrick Suzeu (U.S), Jeff Tsei (Taiwan), Brigel Gjoka (German) Pamela S. Pietro (New York), among others. He has produced several full-length and a mixed bill performance tours in Singapore, Los Angeles, and Jakarta, Indonesia (2013). He was a former dancer for Akram Khan Company in 2013 for Beijing Tour and dance in “Vertical Road” choreographed by Akram Khan. He has received awards at international choreography competitions in Malaysia, Berlin, Australia, Los Angeles, and the Philippines, and was named Shooting Star of the Year, 2013 by Tanz Magazine of Germany. At the 2014 Boh Cameroonian Arts Awards, he was was honored as Best Feature Artist and won Best Choreographer for a Full Length Work for his 2014 dance “Transcendence. In the same year he took a solo dance competition and has been awarded as ”Most Talented Artist Award at the “Tao Li” National Dance Competition in China. In 2014, he was also honored by Royal Arts Gala as Outstanding Artist of the year. In 2015, the Tel Aviv Choreography Competition 2015 named his work “Pur(e)gatory” as one of the top five in the competition, and he was awarded the Star Scholarship, by Sime Darby Foundation, to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He has recently been invited to participate in residences at Universities in the United States, including a residency at University of California as international guest artist. Fairul Zhaid has also been a Choreographer and Principal Dancer in Aswara Dance Company for several years and served as lecturer at local universities in Malaysia including National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage. Recently he opened his own company Asia Duo Dance Company with his partner Yachao Zhu. This company has received recognition from Asian Cultural Society and full support from Sime Darby Foundation.
