Born in Mobile, Alabama, Juan Michael Porter II has worked with H.T. Chen & Dancers, NYCOpera, Michael Mao Dance, The Martha Graham Dance Company, Webster Hall (Director of Dance of The Quarterly Art Soirée), Alpha Omega Dance Company, and BalaSole Dance Company. Additionally he has worked intensively with the musicians Autre Ne Veut, William Hooker, Yasuhiko Fukuoka, and Bird Mask, the playwright Isaiah Sheffer, the film-maker Yvonne Ng, and the choreographers Rose Marie Guirard, Yung Yung Tsuai, Karen Arceneaux, and Pascal Rekoert. His work has been commissioned and presented by Creative Concept Productions, Dixon Place, Sangre de Cristo Art Center (Guest Artist in Residence), 3rd Ward, The Fresh Fruit Festival (Best New Play Award; 2011), Chen Dance Center (newSteps Commission 2013), and Webster Hall. He is the Artistic Director of The Moving Beauty Series and a leading dance critic for Huffington Post, Broadway World, Dance Enthusiast, and Ballet Review.
